Wood Flooring Installation - Subfloor Preparation

Before any wood flooring can be installed, the subfloor must be properly prepared. This can take anywhere from one to three days, depending on the size of the area that will receive the wood flooring, and the condition of the subfloor. A properly prepared subfloor means a superior final wood flooring installation.

  • Uneven Subfloor. To level uneven subfloors we use a self-leveling engineered concrete which dries quickly. This will make for a better overall wood flooring installation as it will fill in low areas of the concrete or plywood subfloor.
  • Moisture Concerns. For a glue-down wood flooring installation, we recommend sealing the subfloor against moisture. This is a two-step process. First we shotblast the concrete subfloor using our shotblasting equipment to open up the concrete pores and allow the sealant to adhere properly.

Our shotblasting equipment is fitted with a vacuum system to minimize dust. Next we spread MVP (moisture vapor protection) over the subfloor. This must dry overnight. Read more about wood flooring moisture concerns.
